Medical treatment in Turkey

Medbook arranges treatment in Turkey, officially Türkiye, in eight cities, from Istanbul and Ankara to İzmir, Bodrum and Kayseri. Every treatment area in Medbook's catalogue is offered there, though not every procedure in each area.

Every service Medbook lists for a destination is arranged in Turkey, including an interpreter, a personal coordinator and visa support. This page explains how those services fit around your trip, what difference the city makes, how to get there and where to check the visa rules.

Travel basics

How a Medbook trip works

  1. Tell the assistant what you need treated, where you travel from and when.
  2. See the destinations that offer your treatment and choose where to ask.
  3. Receive offers with a price and dates.
  4. Confirm an offer and get a day-by-day travel roadmap.

Services arranged around your trip

In Turkey, transfers between the airport, your accommodation and the clinic are arranged for you, and so is accommodation for the length of your stay. An interpreter is arranged for your stay, and a personal coordinator looks after the practical side of your trip from the moment you land. If you need a visa, visa support is available, such as an invitation letter for your application. You can also have an online consultation before you travel. Aftercare is arranged too and can continue remotely once you are home; your offer shows whether follow-up is included.

When you describe your case, the assistant asks whether you need accommodation and an airport transfer, and which language you are most comfortable communicating in. Your answers are part of your request for offers.

Turkey's eight cities

Treatment in Turkey takes place in Istanbul, Ankara, İzmir, Adana, Bodrum, Bursa, Eskişehir and Kayseri. You do not need to name a city before you ask for offers. Each offer shows where your treatment takes place, so you can compare cities as well as dates.

The city makes a difference mainly to your flights and your stay. Istanbul is a major flight hub. İzmir and Bodrum are on the Aegean coast, Adana is in the south, and Ankara, Eskişehir and Kayseri are inland. Bursa and Eskişehir are a few hours from Istanbul by road, and Eskişehir is also on the high-speed railway between Istanbul and Ankara. How long you stay depends on your procedure, and your clinic confirms the dates in its offer.

Getting there

Istanbul has two international airports with flights from many countries. Ankara, İzmir and Bodrum also have international airports, as do Adana and Kayseri, with fewer routes. For the other cities, you can usually connect through Istanbul or Ankara on a domestic flight, or travel on by road or rail. Transfers between the airport, your accommodation and the clinic are among the services arranged in Turkey.

Turkey is on GMT+3 all year and does not change its clocks. If your home country does, the time difference changes by an hour each time your clocks change.

Visas and documents

Whether you need a visa for Turkey depends on your citizenship. Depending on your passport, you may be able to enter without a visa, apply online for an e-Visa, or need to apply at a Turkish embassy or consulate. The e-Visa covers only some purposes of travel, so check which kind of visa fits a trip for treatment. The official visa link on this page opens the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs page, which sets out the rules country by country, including how long your passport must remain valid.

Visa support is among the services in Turkey: if you need a visa, an invitation letter for your application can be arranged. Apply in good time before your dates. Pack your passport or ID card, your medical records and scans, a list of the medications you take and your offer.

Treatment areas in Turkey

Turkey covers every treatment area in Medbook's catalogue: orthopaedics and spine surgery, dental care, plastic and cosmetic surgery, skin and aesthetic medicine, hair restoration and eye care. Health check-ups, fertility treatment and IVF, women's health and urology are offered too, as are cancer care, heart and vascular treatment, and treatment of the brain and nerves. It also offers ear, nose and throat treatment, general surgery, weight-loss surgery, vein treatment, and rehabilitation and physiotherapy.

Not every procedure in an area is offered in Turkey, so open an area to see which ones are. You can choose more than one treatment when you describe your case, and each destination in your results shows which of them it offers. If you know the area but not the exact procedure, choose "Not sure yet" under it.

Questions

Can I choose the city in Turkey?

You can state a preference. When the assistant asks what matters most to you, you can add anything in your own words, including the city you would like, and it goes with your request. Each offer shows where the treatment takes place, so you can compare offers before you confirm one.

Is an interpreter arranged in Turkey?

Yes, an interpreter is among the services arranged in Turkey. The assistant also asks which language you are most comfortable communicating in, and your answer is part of your request for offers.

Does Turkey change its clocks?

No. Turkey stays on GMT+3 all year. If your home country changes its clocks, the time difference with Turkey changes by an hour each time it does.

Can I ask Turkey and other countries at the same time?

Yes. If other destinations offer your treatment, your results show them alongside Turkey, and you choose which ones to ask for offers.
