Weight-loss surgery in Turkey

Turkey offers all five weight-loss procedures on Medbook's list, from the gastric balloon and endoscopic weight-loss treatment to the gastric band, the gastric bypass and the gastric sleeve.

The area is one of seven that Medbook arranges only in Turkey at the moment; the others are heart and vascular treatment, brain and nerve treatment, cancer care, fertility treatment, general surgery and urology. Whichever weight-loss procedure you choose, your results show Turkey for it, and asking for offers there stays your choice.

How a Medbook trip works

  1. Tell the assistant what you need treated, where you travel from and when.
  2. See the destinations that offer your treatment and choose where to ask.
  3. Receive offers with a price and dates.
  4. Confirm an offer and get a day-by-day travel roadmap.

What you can have done in Turkey

You can pick one procedure or several, for example the gastric sleeve and the gastric bypass if you would like the clinic to look at both. Medbook does not suggest a procedure; that decision belongs to you and your doctors, and "Not sure yet" under weight-loss surgery keeps it open. Medbook's guide to weight-loss surgery, under Treatments, describes each procedure, and the clinic looks at your case before it makes an offer.

How the trip usually goes

Medbook's guide to weight-loss surgery also explains why follow-up is worth planning with your doctor at home before you leave. Aftercare is among Turkey's services, so in the online consultation ask how the clinic keeps in touch after you return, and for how long.

After you confirm an offer, the flight is the first item in your roadmap and the transfer follows it, and either can be left to Medbook or booked by you. A personal coordinator in Turkey looks after the practical side of the stay, which usually includes tests and appointments before the procedure, the procedure itself and time to recover before the flight home. Its length varies with the procedure; your clinic confirms the dates in its offer, and each offer shows whether follow-up is included.

Questions

Is endoscopic weight-loss treatment the same as endoscopy?

No. Endoscopic weight-loss treatment belongs to this area and, like the rest of it, is offered only in Turkey. Endoscopy and colonoscopy is a health check-up programme that Turkey and South Korea both offer, so choosing it brings up both countries in your results.

What if I have had a procedure on my stomach before?

Mention it in your own words when the assistant asks what you would like treated, with the year and the name of the procedure if you know them. Keep any notes from it ready for the online consultation, which takes place before you travel.
