Spine surgery abroad
Spine surgery on Medbook covers operations and other treatment of the spine. It includes surgery for a herniated disc or spinal stenosis, spinal fusion, artificial disc replacement and scoliosis treatment, as well as spinal injections and pain treatment.
Two countries offer spine treatment through Medbook. Turkey offers every procedure in the area, in eight cities. South Korea offers endoscopic spine surgery as well as spinal injections and pain treatment, in Seoul, Busan and Incheon. This page explains what can be arranged, how the two destinations differ and what to gather before you travel.

How a Medbook trip works

- See the destinations that offer your treatment and choose where to ask.
- Receive offers with a price and dates.
- Confirm an offer and get a day-by-day travel roadmap.
What Medbook can arrange
The area includes herniated disc and stenosis surgery, endoscopic spine surgery and artificial disc replacement. In spinal fusion, two or more vertebrae are joined together. In vertebroplasty and kyphoplasty, bone cement is injected into a vertebra, for example after a compression fracture. Scoliosis is where the spine twists and curves to the side.
Spinal injections and pain treatment are the non-surgical part of the area. If you know you need spine treatment but not which procedure, choose "Not sure yet" under spine surgery when you describe your case, or write in your own words what a doctor has told you. The clinic looks at the details of your case before it makes you an offer.
Choosing a destination
Turkey offers every spine procedure on Medbook's list, in Istanbul, Ankara, İzmir, Adana, Bodrum, Bursa, Eskişehir and Kayseri. Every service on Medbook's list is arranged there: airport and clinic transfers, accommodation, an interpreter, a personal coordinator, visa support, an online consultation before you travel and aftercare.
South Korea offers endoscopic spine surgery as well as spinal injections and pain treatment, in Seoul, Busan and Incheon. Accommodation and an online consultation before you travel are arranged there. An interpreter, a personal coordinator and aftercare are not among the services in South Korea, so check each offer for whether follow-up is included.
If both countries offer what you need, you can ask both and compare their offers. Wherever you go, once you confirm an offer, your roadmap lets you book flights and transfers yourself or ask Medbook to arrange them.
Before you travel
Gather your recent spine imaging: MRI or CT scans and X-rays with their written reports and, if you have them, the image files themselves. Add letters from your doctors, records of any earlier spine surgery or injections, a list of the medications you take, including any for pain, and your allergies. The assistant asks about chronic conditions, allergies and medications when you describe your case.
An online consultation before you travel is arranged in both countries. Questions worth asking during the consultation:
- Which scans do you need to see, and how recent should they be?
- How long should I plan to stay, and when can I fly home?
- Should someone travel with me?
- Which follow-up checks are planned once I am home?
When you compare offers, look at the dates and at whether follow-up is included.
Questions
Which spine procedures are offered in South Korea?
Endoscopic spine surgery as well as spinal injections and pain treatment, in Seoul, Busan and Incheon. The other spine procedures on Medbook's list are offered in Turkey.
Can I ask Turkey and South Korea at the same time?
Yes, if both offer the treatment you choose. Your results show every destination that offers it, and you choose which ones to ask for offers.
What if I only know what my doctor told me?
Write it in your own words when the assistant asks what you would like treated. The assistant matches your answer to the closest treatment on its list, and you can review and change it before you send your request.
Can physiotherapy be arranged after spine surgery?
Physiotherapy and rehab programmes belong to the rehabilitation and physiotherapy area on Medbook. Turkey offers them as well as every spine procedure, and you can choose both when you describe your case. The clinic confirms in its offer what it can do and when.
