What Medbook can arrange
The surgical side of the area covers brain tumour surgery, epilepsy surgery, treatment of brain aneurysms, shunt surgery for hydrocephalus, and surgery on the nerves, including for trigeminal neuralgia. Hydrocephalus is a build-up of fluid in the brain, and in shunt surgery a thin tube is implanted in the brain to drain the excess fluid away. In deep brain stimulation, a pulse generator similar to a heart pacemaker is implanted in the chest wall and connected to fine wires placed in specific areas of the brain.
The area also covers treatment for stroke, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, and migraine and headache. If you are not sure which treatment you need, choose "Not sure yet" under brain and nerves when you describe your case, or write in your own words what your neurologist has told you. The clinic looks at the details of your case before it makes you an offer.
Where treatment takes place
Turkey offers every procedure in this area, in Istanbul, Ankara, İzmir, Adana, Bodrum, Bursa, Eskişehir and Kayseri. You do not have to choose a city first. Each offer shows where your treatment takes place, so you can compare places as well as dates.
Every service on Medbook's list is arranged in Turkey: airport and clinic transfers, accommodation, an interpreter, a personal coordinator, visa support, an online consultation before you travel and aftercare. Once you confirm an offer, your roadmap lets you book flights and transfers yourself or ask Medbook to arrange them.
How long you stay depends on the treatment, and your clinic confirms the dates in its offer. When the assistant asks how many days you can spend abroad, choose the option that really fits your plans.
Before you travel
Gather the records that show your condition as it is today: recent MRI or CT scans of the brain or spine with their written reports and, if you have them, the image files themselves; EEG results if you have epilepsy; letters from your neurologist or neurosurgeon; and notes on any earlier surgery or treatment. Write down the medications you take, with their doses, and any allergies. The assistant asks about chronic conditions, allergies and medications when you describe your case.
Think about the journey too. If you need help when you travel, decide early who will come with you. An online consultation before you travel is among the services arranged in Turkey. Questions worth asking during the consultation:
- Which scans and records do you need, and how recent should they be?
- How long should I plan to stay, and when can I fly home?
- Is there anything to consider about flying after the treatment?
- Which follow-up is planned, and how will reports reach my doctors at home?
When you compare offers, look at the dates and at whether follow-up is included.
Questions
Can Medbook tell me which treatment I need?
No. Medbook arranges the trip, but it does not give medical advice. Decisions about your treatment belong to your doctors, and the clinic looks at the details of your case before it makes you an offer.
What if I only know my diagnosis?
Write it in your own words when the assistant asks what you would like treated. The assistant matches your answer to the closest treatment on its list, and you can review and change it before you send your request.
Can rehabilitation after a stroke be arranged?
Neurological and stroke rehabilitation belongs to the rehabilitation and physiotherapy area on Medbook and is offered in Turkey. You can choose it together with a brain and nerve treatment when you describe your case. The clinic confirms in its offer what it can do and when.
Is an interpreter arranged?
Yes. An interpreter is among the services arranged in Turkey, together with a personal coordinator and aftercare. The assistant also asks which language you are most comfortable communicating in.
