What you can have done in Kaunas
For the large joints, Kaunas offers hip, knee and shoulder replacement, knee arthroscopy and meniscus repair, ACL and knee ligament reconstruction, hip arthroscopy, and shoulder arthroscopy and rotator cuff repair. The list also includes foot and ankle surgery, bunion and toe surgery, hand, wrist and elbow surgery, osteotomy and limb alignment, and joint injections, including PRP.
Medbook's guide to orthopaedics, under Treatments, explains what each procedure is. Physiotherapy and rehab programmes are also offered in Kaunas, and you can choose them as well as your procedure. If you know you need orthopaedic care but not which procedure, choose "Not sure yet" under orthopaedics when you describe your case. The clinic looks at the details of your case before it makes you an offer.
How the trip usually goes
Once you confirm an offer, you add your flight to your roadmap and then the transfer, so the pickup is planned for the airport you land at and your arrival time. In Lithuania, transfers between the airport, your accommodation and the clinic are arranged for you.
Accommodation is arranged in central Kaunas, and you can recover in apartments there that a nurse visits every day. A personal coordinator is there for practical questions during your trip. A stay typically has three parts: any appointments before the procedure, the procedure itself, and time to recover before you fly home. Physiotherapy is available after surgery. How long each part takes depends on the procedure, and your clinic confirms the dates in its offer. Before you travel, you can have an online consultation and send your X-rays or MRI to a surgeon for review.
Aftercare is among the services in Lithuania, and after a joint replacement the surgeon checks your follow-up X-rays. When you compare offers, look at the dates and at whether follow-up is included.
